Frequently Asked Questions What is a Keurig coffee maker?
The Keurig coffee maker is an “always ready” single-cup brewer. It accepts sealed plastic cups, called K-Cups, to make each individual serving. After inserting a K-Cup, you press the “brew” button and a perfect cup of coffee is produced within seconds. What are the dimensions of the Keurig coffee maker? The Keurig B100 coffee maker is 15” high by 8” wide by 17” deep. How much does it cost? The list price is $249.95, but I have seen it offered for quite a bit less online. Lower prices usually involve making a commitment to buy a certain amount of coffee either at the time of purchase or over a certain period of time. How much water does it hold? 64 oz. or 8 cups. As you're filling the Keurig, it will beep four times when it's full. If the water is always hot, how much does it cost to operate? According to Keurig, the coffee maker uses the equivalent of a 60-watt lightbulb. So, at 12˘ per kilowatt-hour, the Keurig would cost $5.18 to operate over a 30-day period. Your cost per kilowatt-hour may be more or less. What kind of cleanup is required between each use? None. Just pop out the used K-Cup, throw it away, and you're done. Does it come in any color other than black? No. Besides, the black looks really nice. What if I get the machine and decide that I don't like it? According to their website, Keurig offers a 30-day money back guarantee if your purchase it through them. Regardless, Keurig offers a limited one-year warranty. Will the Keurig dispense hot water for instant soup or hot chocolate? Yes. By opening and closing the door (without a K-Cup) the machine will dispense hot water when the “brew” button is pressed. The water is dispensed at 185°F. What is a K-Cup? A K-Cup is a small air-tight plastic cup containing a single serving of coffee. What's inside of a K-Cup? A cone-shaped filter holds the coffee while pressurized water flows through the K-Cup at the ideal pressure and temperature. How much does each K-Cup cost? If you purchase K-Cups directly from Keurig or through a coffee roaster like Green Mountain, expect to pay $13.95 for a box of 25 K-Cups (about 56˘ per cup). I have found some resellers on the Internet selling boxes of 25 for $9.95 (about 40˘ per cup). Which coffee roasters make K-Cups? Currently, five coffee roasters are producing K-Cups: Green Mountain, Gloria Jean's, Diedrich, Timothy's, and Van Houtte. Do they make K-Cups with anything other than coffee in them? Yes, there are four brands of tea available: Celestial Seasonings, Timothy's Tea, Bigelow, and Gloria Jean's Tea. No, they don't make hot chocolate! Does a K-Cup have an expiration date? Yes, they have “best by” dates that are usually several months after the date of purchase. Is the coffee and tea Kosher? According to the Keurig website, yes. Do I have to buy each flavor in boxes of 25? No. You can buy K-Cups in boxes of 5 or 25. There are also several variety packs available that contain several different flavors per box. What's your favorite K-Cup flavor? I'm not sure that I could narrow it down to just one! I really like Green Mountain Rainforest Nut, Belgian Chocolate Nut, and Lake & Lodge. I'm also partial to Gloria Jean's Butter Toffee, Mudslide, and Cappuccino. My wife loves Green Mountain Hazelnut Decaf. The best part about the Keurig is that there are so many choices (we always keep about 12 different varieties in our kitchen "Keurig drawer"). There is always something for everyone. Can you refill K-Cups? The answer used to be "NO!" -- BUT... an interesting device called a My-Kap allows you to refill them with your favorite coffee up to ten times. REALLY! I've never used one, but it seems to be a neat little device that could SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY. Are you paid to say these nice things about the Keurig coffee maker? Does your dad work for Keurig? No and no. I have no affiliation with Keurig, any coffee roasters, or any coffee retailers. I just love my Keurig and want to help educate others about the joys of owning one (although if Keurig wanted to send me a couple free boxes of K-Cups, I wouldn't complain). |
