Choosing an Italian Espresso Machine

Elektra

The Italian-made Electra Semi-Automatica graces your counter like the work of art it is. It is one of the most elegant and unique of all Italian espresso machines on the market today. Not only that, but it also produces outstanding espresso with steam for cappuccino. This regal chrome sculpture has a highly polished chrome finish, African Rosewood handles, a brass eagle that perches on top of the machine, has water level indicator, and pressure gauge in easy view. The Electra Semi-Automatica has a 2 liter brass boiler, a great frother controlled by a turn knob, and a top loading 2-liter water tank. This truly beautiful machine retails for about $1,400. The Elektra Microcasa Lever is also available for about $900.

La Pavoni

La Pavoni is a line of Italian espresso machines that are lever and piston or pump machines. The higher end machines work on the lever and piston principle. When the lever is lifted, water is pulled into the filter, and when the lever is lowered, water is forced through the filter and grounds and espresso is dispensed into your cup. These models range from $600 to $900. The La Pavoni Pisa is a triple plated chrome steel wonder and is designed by Italian artist Carlo Galizzi. This model has a pump, 40-ounce water tank, is side loading, and it comes with a frother and cappuccino attachment. This Italian espresso machine retails for about $500.

Saeco

Saeco has a huge line of Italian espresso machines that you must see to believe. So many beautiful espresso machines, so little time! The high-end machine, the Saeco Royal Professional, has an independent menu button, one-touch grinding of whole beans, dosing, tamping, and extracting espresso. Following the brew cycle, the grounds are deposited in an internal dump box. This machine has both the Panarello wand or the Cappuccinatore, which can pull milk from a milk container, froth it, and dispense it into your cup. The Saeco Royal Professional Espresso Machine retails for about $1,500.

Isomac

Isomac has manufactured quality espresso machines for almost 30 years. They are stylish and functional, a work of art, and an industry leader. These Italian-made espresso machines are constructed with stainless-steel housings, have quality brew groups, and operate on the lever and piston principle. The Isomac Relax is the top of the line in the Isomac name brand. It is a semi-automatic Italian espresso machine with a large, nickel-plated copper heat-exchange boiler, heavy-duty brass plumbing and fittings, and a high-performance pump. This model has two pressure gauges for measuring boiler pressure and monitoring brewing pressure. It has a commercial grade brew, a 3-liter removable water tank, a massive, rechargeable water filter, stainless steel drip tray, and indirect heat that doubles as a cup warmer. This machine retails for about $1,200.
